Deep-sea tools: Rolex diver’s watches
Rolex’s diver’s buying replica watch are highly sought after. It’s no wonder that Rolex has an exciting history, many noteworthy collaborations, unique designs, and sturdy, precise in-house movements. We’ll explore a variety of models from the WatchTime archives in this feature.
Rolex currently produces four different diver’s watch models: the Submariner and Submariner Date, the Sea-Dweller, and the Deepsea (listed in order of size and price from lowest to highest). The Submariner and Submariner Date have the same case size. Almost all watches in the collection are available in different materials, dials, and bezel colors. The Submariner, without a date indication, is the entry-level offering. It was introduced in 1953 as Rolex’s first diver’s watch. At the time, it had a bidirectional rotating bezel that measured dive times. Initially, the Submariner was water-resistant to 100 meters, but by 1954, Rolex had raised that to 200 meters. In 1955, the British Royal Navy began using the Submariner as its official dive watch, and the Royal Canadian Navy followed suit the following year.
Rolex first became famous in 1927 for its patented screw-down crown waterproof watch, and the clever Oyster name was an effective marketing tool. During her 15-hour attempt to cross the English Channel, Mercedes Glaze wore a waterproof Rolex watch that withstood the test. Rolex advertised the event on the front page of the London Daily Mail, which brought great acclaim to the watch. replica Jacob and Co. Bugatti Chiron
Rolex also developed the Deep-Sea Special watch for exploring the depths of the ocean. Between 1953 and 1960, the watch was attached to the hull of a submarine and participated in several maritime expeditions. The high (or low) for this watch came in 1960 when Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh reached a depth of 10,916 meters in their Trieste submarine into the Mariana Trench, just a few meters from the deepest point on the ocean floor. The Deep-Sea Special survived intact. Although several pieces were made, it never went into series production. With a domed crystal and a total height of 35 mm, it was still too big to wear.
Submariner Today’s Submariner measures 40 mm in diameter and 12.5 mm thick, which is thin for a diver’s watch. The watch without a date is driven by the self-winding in-house 3130 movement, while the watch with a date is powered by the 3135 movement. Both movements have a power reserve of 48 hours. Chronometer certification from the independent testing agency COSC guarantees accuracy, while the company itself has stricter standards that stipulate that each Rolex watch must not exceed 2 seconds per day. The Glidelock system can extend the bracelet for a precise fit and allows the Submariner to be worn over a diving suit. Like all Rolex dive watches, it comes with a metal bracelet and a unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic inlays.
Sea-Dweller Saturation diving was developed in the early 1960s. When operating at depth, professional diving companies took advantage of the fact that after 24 hours under pressure, the human body will no longer absorb additional nitrogen, thus shortening the time required for decompression. Therefore, in order to prepare for long periods of time at depth, professional divers spend several days in a pressure chamber filled with a mixture of helium, nitrogen and oxygen. Once the underwater mission is completed, the pressure in the chamber is gradually reduced to normal levels. During this process, the crystal of a diver's watch often pops out of the case due to the helium trapped in the watch. Divers on the Sealab program encountered this problem while helping the U.S. Marines study the effects of high pressure and various breathing gases on the human body. replica urwerk Watches
A Sealab diver reported the problem to Rolex and suggested adding a pressure relief valve to safely release the helium that had seeped into the watch. Rolex subsequently developed the helium escape valve, which was later adopted by many other brands.
Rolex began working with French diving specialist Comex in the early 1970s and provided watches to all Comex divers, who then shared their experience and helped to continue developing the watches. Comex laid underwater cables, dived on oil rigs and salvaged shipwrecks. In the process, they developed their own special tools and experimented with breathing gas mixtures. Comex set many depth records, and divers wore Sea-Dweller watches during each ordeal. In 1972, two divers survived 50 hours in a pressurized chamber at a depth of 610 meters. Later, Comex employees worked in the ocean at depths of more than 500 meters, and in 1992 a Comex diver reached a depth of 701 meters in a pressure chamber. What Comex really needed was a Sea-Dweller that was three times more water-resistant and equipped with a helium escape valve.
In the mid-1960s, Rolex provided Comex with a specially equipped Submariner model to test the helium escape valve. Today, these "Rolex Comex" watches (Ref. 5514) are both expensive and rare. The Sea-Dweller went into series production in 1967, equipped with a helium escape valve. The new model was able to withstand pressures to a depth of 610 meters. Its design was similar to that of the Submariner. In 1980, Rolex doubled the water-resistance of the Sea-Dweller to 1,220 meters. In 2017, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sea-Dweller, Rolex released a new model, replacing the old one introduced in 2014. The watch, now 43mm in diameter and 15mm thick, features the iconic Rolex Cyclops date magnifier and looks a lot like a magnified Submariner, but with continuous 60-minute markings on the diving bezel and red lettering on the dial. best replica watches
Deepsea The maximum depth limit remained the same until the launch of the Deepsea model in 2008, which was water-resistant to 3,900 meters. Rolex developed an entirely new case design to ensure that the watch was not too bulky despite its enormous water resistance. Its patented “Ringlock” system consists of three elements that can withstand pressure: a 5.5mm-thick sapphire crystal, a 3.28mm grade 5 titanium caseback, and an inner ring made of BioDur 108 steel. The system is surrounded by the 904L steel that Rolex uses for the case. The titanium caseback is pressed into the inner ring by a threaded 904L steel caseback ring.
The materials were carefully selected; they are both strong and resilient, yet not prone to deforming or cracking under pressure. The intricate design allows the case to measure 44mm x 18mm, which is not only eye-catching but also 10% thinner than other cases of similar construction. The Deepsea is designed to withstand depths of up to 4,900 meters. Each watch undergoes rigorous underwater testing at this 25% higher pressure. Updated in 2018, the Deepsea now has a more balanced case and a new in-house movement with a power reserve of 70 hours. Like the Sea-Dweller, the Deepsea has a Fliplock extension that allows the bracelet to be delicately extended by an additional 26mm. replica Bell and Ross BR 05 Watches
2012 was the year of another important underwater project, the Deepsea Challenge. Rolex was once again a partner. Filmmaker James Cameron was the first person to successfully reach the deepest point below the sea level at that time, following his famous first expedition in 1960. Attached to the exterior of his submersible was another specially designed concept watch by Rolex: the Deepsea Challenge, which is waterproof to a depth of 12,000 meters. It relies on the Ringlock system to achieve wearable dimensions of 51.4 mm in diameter and 28.5 mm in thickness.
Styles With the exception of the Submariner without date, each Rolex diver's watch offers different options. The Deepsea is available with a black dial or a dial that transitions from black to blue. As of 2019, the Sea-Dweller is available in steel and steel-and-gold versions. The steel Submariner is available with a black or green dial and matching bezel. It is also available in yellow gold and steel-and-gold versions, with customers choosing between a black or blue dial and bezel. The white gold version is only available with a blue dial and bezel. All in all, the diver's watch collection consists of 12 different versions. replica watches for sale
